Birth Defects Linked to Zofran
Zofran is a medication approved by the FDA to alleviate nausea during chemotherapy
and following surgery. GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of Zofran, has
additionally promoted an off-label use of Zofran for morning sickness
in pregnant woman. To date, there have been almost 500 reports of birth
defects linked to women’s use of Zofran during pregnancy. These
women have given birth to babies with defects, such as cleft palate and
septal heart defects.
