In the latest move for Testosterone products, the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) are now requiring that all manufacturers of approved prescription
testosterone products add information of possible increased risk of heart
attack and stroke to the prouduct labeling.
The FDA is also cautioning that prescription for testosterone products
are only approved for men who have low levels of testosterone caused by
certain medical conditions. This is because the FDA is becoming aware
of testosterone products being used in patients for no reason other than
aging and the benefits and safety for this type of use have not been established.
It is recommended that health care professionals should prescribe testosterone
therapy for men with low levels caused by certain medical conditions and
that are confirmed by laboratory tests. It is also recommended that health
care professionals should make patients aware of the increased risk of
heart attack or stroke.
